Eiffel

Depending on how you look at it, Eiffel's discography is either very limited, or decently expansive. The band formed in Denver in 1997, and after the release of their first album in 1999, Eiffel would change their name to Vaux in 2002. This change in moniker marked a change in sound. Audiblenarcotic is a true 90s emo album, after which Vaux took a hard turn into glossy, early 2000s post-hardcore. It's actually a bit surprising to me that the band chose to reissue their first album under their new name, because it's not at all representative of Vaux's sound. In that sense, Eiffel is basically a separate project entirely.

The first song on audiblenarcotic immediately makes it clear where the band is coming from—these guys had to have been big fans of Jimmy Eat World. "The Set Up" manages to simultaneously sound like a b-side from Static Prevails and Sunday's Best's Where You Are Now. In other words, it's awesome. Eiffel also work in quite a bit of screamo over the course of the nine tracks, giving the album a somewhat harder edge than is typical for emo pop like this.

Besides the 1999 album, Eiffel also released a 7" in 1998. Both songs appear on the album, but as I haven't been able to obtain a copy, I don't know if they are the same versions.
