dignen

dignen were a midwest emo\indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. Putting together a full picture of their discography is difficult, mostly because Discogs is missing at least two of their releases. They have two LPs—a self-titled first and The Years After The College Collapse—and a 7". According to the old site from their label, Note Farm, they also have a split 12" that doesn't seem to exist anywhere now. Given that the band was formed in 1997, it seems unlikely that the 1999 7" is their first release, but I suppose it might be.

dignen play the kind of indie rock-influenced midwest emo that was happening way underground at the same time emo was going pop punk and breaking into the mainstream. Appropriately, they sometimes sound like their Portland comrades Woke Up Falling (both of whom were featured on the same CD Baby compilation), especially on their diverse first album. It's midwest emo, but there's a lot of other sounds going on at the same time. dignen are less pop-oriented than WUF, though, particularly on the sparse second album. College Collapse veers into a different facet of indie rock, stripped down to something that sounds a bit like fellow Pacific Northwest natives Carissa's Wierd.
