Hailing from the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, Five Star Sequel were an emo pop band formed in 2003 and active until at least 2004, and possibly for a little while after that. This release was actually a lucky thrift store find, jammed into the bottom shelf with about a thousand Christmas CDs. The band still has a couple songs—both of which are on this EP—on Soundclick, and their Facebook page was active up to a few years ago. From Facebook, it looks like they had another project in the works, which may have combined this EP with more material, perhaps rerecording it for an LP, but as far as I can tell it never saw daylight. That makes 2004's The Projection EP the only known release for this band. Sonically, the EP is comprised of the emo-pop punk popular at the time.
I saw this band play many many times back in the day in and around the Quad Cities areas of Iowa and Illinois. I am so thankful you found this and put it up online for people to discover. an absolute nostalgia trip for me. They never released anything else except this EP, there was a lot of talk about an LP but nothing came to light for one reason or another.
ReplyDeleteGood to know! I did some searching for a second release because I saw some art on their Facebook that indicated they were at least thinking about one.
DeleteI have their early demo from when I was in high school uploaded to my OneDrive haha
ReplyDeleteAny chance I could get that? I'd love to add it to the post
