Hunter Gatherer

Hunter Gatherer were a post-hardcore/emo band from Athens, GA, which puts them in good company (Michael were also from Athens). Their sound is combination of  post-hardcore and emocore, though it's a little more approachable than that combination suggests, especially on their only LP, as they also take a lot of influence from the poppier sides of emo. I've always loved the artwork on the LP, and their split EP with Rydell also features work from the same artist.

Their first release was either the My House Is On Fire 7" or a track on the Nothing Left #8 CD sampler. The 7" was recorded in June of 1998 and the sampler was from October of that year, so the 7" was likely released first. In 1999 they put of a split with Rydell. As stated, Hunter Gatherer were from Athens and Rydell were from the UK; the label which released the split was Scene Police, from Germany. No idea how that came together, but it is interesting (Hunter Gatherer thank Hot Water Music in their liner notes, a band that also had a split with Rydell, so perhaps that's part of the connection). In 2000 the band released their only LP, Low Standards For High Fives, which is a title I've always really enjoyed. The next year saw their last two pieces of output, a track on the Firework Anatomy compilation and four songs on a split album with four other bands, all local to Athens.
